Point being- If you or anyone else wants to make a razoresque hardware synth (even if it's just software inside) I will be the first in line to buy it.

And it actually turns out that (at least in my case) I feel like I do get more out of equipment with tactile interfaces- even if they are technically inferior- I spend more time with them, I dive deeper into understanding them, I learn to push the boundaries of what they can do, and am in general just more creative.Īnyway, that was my random stream of consciousness thoughts on it. I think that somewhere along the line I began to realize that the enjoyment of using equipment with a tactile interface was far superior to that of a computer (as many here have as well) So for me these days, it isn't so much about whether euro is better for analog and the computer is better for digital- It's just that I know I will enjoy using a piece of equipment more if I can sit it down in front of me and actually play with it. Use the computer for what it was good at and use the analog stuff for what it was good at. I do understand why one would want to stick with analog in their euro system, I think I used to feel similarly. This is one of the things I love about muffs - post a comment about Razor and get a response from the creator.Īnyway, thanks errorsmith for creating razor, it's one of my most used and appreciated synths.

There's a healthy amount of DSP in euro out there already. which is kind of perverse to some people but why not? it'd be interesting to see more modules inspired by software. but i can't imagine my modular w/o a hertz donut"Īnyway. so he probably does indeed have all that stuff covered pretty well and he probably is getting some great sounds out of those things that compare well. and those "digital no-nos" and all kinds of other amazing shit. "oh, this guy made Razor though and probably has lot's of amazing things he built in the computer that take advantage of some of the same concepts as digital modular stuff. Of course it's an acquired taste and it may not be for you but it's definitely worth checking out.Īfter thinking about it. I think the difference between digital computer stuff and the eurorack modules (especially the Harvestman stuff in my experience) is the character and abuse of certain digital no-no's which make some of these modules really unique. i started off wanting only analog modules and am slowly progressing towards an almost all digital setup. I just want to echo what ignatius said, the digital side of euro is really cool. you've obviously got some serious Reaktor kung fu so maybe you get all that digital goodness well taken care of.Ĭount Edlington wrote:Hey errorsmith welcome to the forum, I'm keen to see what new things you come up with using the modular. but perhaps you've already demo'd some of them and come to your conclusions. not all the digital modules are "winners" imo but some of them are quite special. the harvestman Hertz Donut is something that's a favorite. to me they are some of the most fun, inspiring and surprising things in the euro world. I have no experience programming anything so can't add anything worthy to the questions you posed but just thought i'd say that if you get the chance you should demo some of the digital euro modules. i always wondered if digital modules have a latency like computers with soundcards have? Maybe they don't need a buffer. I have no experience with programming dsp chips.

although i see a lot of obstacles like processing power, update rate (i guess audio rate modulation is expected but most likely not possible), feature set (howto condense a whole instrument in one module?) etc. Interesting thought to make a razor module. I'm avoiding digital modules, as i have reaktor for this, interfacing it to eurorack with expert sleepers es3.

I mainly look for modules which do what analog can do best like aliasing free distortion and fm. lately i started a small euro rack, so i read this forum for recommendations. Errorsmith wrote:hi, i am the guy who created razor and developed it in cooperation with ni.
